EUGENE, Ore. - Former members of the Arkansas Lady Razorback track and field
team, Gi-Gi (Miller) Johnson, LaShaunte'a Moore and Nicole Teter competed on
day two of the U.S. Olympic Trials at Oregon's Hayward Field on Saturday.
Johnson finished fourth in the heptathlon with 6,247 points. She
started day two of the event with a leap of 21-0.75 in the long jump. She
finished third and earned 981 points. Next up in the javelin, she finished
fourth with a toss of 139-4 and earned 715 points. She ended the day
finishing second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15.88.
Moore advanced to the finals in the 100 meters after clocking a semifinal
time of 11.03 and finishing fourth in her heat. She went on to finish eighth
in the finals with a time of 11.22. She'll return to the track Friday, July
4, for the 200-meter qualifying rounds.
A pile up in the 800-meter semifinals prevented Teter from advancing to the
finals. Just 200 meters into the race, runners got tangled up and four,
including Teter, hit the track. Unable to recover, she finished fifth in her
heat with a time of 2:10.76. She'll return to the track Thursday, July 3,
for the 1,500-meter quarterfinals.
"I just couldn't get it back together after falling," Teter said. "I really
don't know what happened, but I think somebody pushed me and I couldn't
hurdle the girl on the ground. I'm just going to have to regroup and come
back for the 1500 meters. Things like this happen, but this is devastating.
We signed up for both the 800 meters and 1500 meters and at that time it was
kind of a fall back, but now it seems like a blessing in disguise."
