EUGENE, Ore. – Three Arkansas Razorbacks advanced to the next round of running in the 1,500 meters on day five of the U.S. Olympic Trials at Oregon’s Hayward Field on Thursday.
Current Hog Andy McClary finished eighth in his heat and 24th overall. He was the final runner accepted into Friday’s semifinal. He clocked a time of 3:45.40.
“That was a rough heat,” McClary said. “I almost got knocked over with 600 meters to go, right when we all started to make our big moves. Both my legs almost went out from under me and I got push hard. It was a horrible race. But I made it through and that’s what matters. Tomorrow is a new race and a new heat.”
Former Razorbacks Said Ahmed and James Hatch also advanced to the semifinals. Ahmed finished second in his heat and fourth overall (3:41.92). Hatch was sixth in his heat and 18th overall (3:45.55).
"This crowd is awesome,” Ahmed said. “You can't get tired with this crowd. Making the Olympic team would mean everything to me and just being here means a lot. I'm not taking any of the rounds easy. I want to finish in the top three every time.”
