Highlights for JULY, 2008 include:

  • Slaney, Waitz, Loroupe, Kiplagat, Kastor…all have headlined the elite field in New York Road Runners New York Mini 10K.
  • Nearing it's thirtieth, the Classic 10K in Middletown continues the tradition of elites at the front and community fervor throughout the ranks.
  • A fast morning in the WABC Father's Day Fight Against Prostate Cancer with a sprint for the tape and a final surge to the finish for the club runners.
  • New York State Governor David Paterson leads the way, but real VIPS are the Freedom Team members in wheelchairs in the Achilles Hope & Possibilities Five Miler.
  • The color pink rules the day in the fun and festive Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Hartford, and thousands join the party.
  • The tradition continues as over 15,000 head out in the New York City stop in the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge.
  • New York Road Runners "Running Week" featured the vibrant closing bell ceremony at Nasdaq, a Michelob Ultra Great Moment in Running.
  • The lion roars at the start of Japan Day at Central Park, a running festival and cultural extravaganza.
  • Fifty years to the day from the founding of New York Road Runners and the best way to celebrate…a five mile NYRR Anniversary Run. Fifty down and many more to follow.
